What are essential oils?
Essential oils are natural compounds extracted from plants at a high concentration. They are extracted via two main methods: steam distillation or cold pressing. It is beautifully scented and widely used in aromatherapy and should be diluted properly. Method of use include nasal inhalation or rubbed on the skin. Inhaling stimulates a part of the brain associated with emotions, behaviors, smell and memory. When applied on the skin the plant chemicals are absorbed into the body. Essential oils help lift moods and have many therapeutic benefits.
What is the best way to wash my face?
The best way to wash your face is to know your skin type before choosing a cleansing product. Some people have very sensitive skin, others dry etc. The fewer chemicals the better. If you choose a very mild one it might not be effective if you have skin issues. On the other hand, if you really have sensitive skin it may be hash for you. With facial cleansers they really have to be customised to suit you. Some people simple soap and water does the trick others a soap-free version is best. To know what works for you try different cleansers till you get the best results and stick with that. Don’t try various cleansers at the same time, do the test individually for a week or so to see. by using a cleanser that is personalized to YOUR skin. you can also try facial brushes, beware they can sometimes be abrasive, cotton cloth, gentle scrubs etc
How to avoid smelly feet
When you sweat and your feet are completely enclosed and no air flow it causes foot odor. Body bacteria thrive in this environment producing isovaleric acid which in turn causes odor. Conditions like athlete’s foot and another fungus skin infection can cause smelly feet.
A simple foot soak can help kill bacteria and cleanse feet. For fresh clean feel to feet have a foot soak. Here is a simple foot soak recipe: 3 tbs sea salt, 1 tps bicarbonate of soda, 1tps citric acid, 1tps coconut or olive oil, 3 drops lemon essential oil, 3 drops thyme essential oil. Both oils contain antiseptic qualities to get rid of bacteria and odor smells. Combine and vigorously mix all ingredients in a bowl of 1-liter warm water. Soak feet for 15 – 20 mins pat dry. Tip: Wear well-ventilated shoes, cotton socks and washable shoe soles.
